IPL 2023: Ravi Shastri makes huge prediction about Shubman Gill, says he can break Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in a season

Virat Kohli’s 973 runs in a season is a record unlikely to be surpassed in the Indian Premier League, although records are supposed to be broken. The former RCB captain accomplished the impossible in 16 matches during the 2016 edition.

The average of Kohli’s runs was 81.08, and his strike rate was over 152. He had amassed seven fifties and four hundreds during the division.

Ravi Shastri, a former cricketer for India and current coach, believes that rising hero Shubman Gill, who plays for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023, has what it takes to eclipse Kohli’s record.

During a question-answer session on #AskStar, Shastri identified Gill as the player most capable of surpassing Kohli. He added that batting first greatly aids in scoring additional runs.

Mr. Shastri stated that he must be an opener since it is the only position where he will have many chances to score runs. Further, he added, it should be Shubman Gill since he is currently performing well and also because he bats at the top order. So, a significant number of chances for scoring runs will be presented to him. According to Shastri, if he scores 80 to 100 runs continuously in two to three innings, he’ll have 300 to 400 runs at that stage, assuming the pitches are excellent.

In addition, Shastri stated that it is incredibly challenging to break the mark since 900-plus runs are enormous. However, opening batsmen will receive two extra matches & two extra innings, allowing them to break the record if feasible.

Kohli is followed in the list of the single season’s best scorers by Jos Buttler & David Warner, each of whom has scored 863 & 848 runs, respectively.

On Sunday, Gill became the first player in IPL history to score 2,000 runs.
Gill has played in 77 matches in the Indian Premier League, scoring 2,016 runs with an avg. of 32.52 & a strike rate of 126.24.

Last year was Gill’s finest season; he scored 483 runs in 16 innings and was a vital contributor to Gujarat Titans’ victory in their inaugural season.
