On May 23 and 24, the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai will host the first IPL 2023 qualifier 1. Qualifier 2 will take place on May 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, while the final will be held there on May 28.
Ahmedabad hosted the final and Qualifier 2 the previous year as well. Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals in the championship game to win the trophy in their first season of play. In Ahmedabad, the 2023 season also got underway, with Titans defeating Chennai Super Kings.
With four victories from six games, the Royals are now first in the standings. Lucknow Super Giants are just beneath them, separated only by net run rate. Titans have six points after five games, placing them fourth.
After a break of three years, the tournament will be contested under the home-and-away format this year for the first time. Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the event had to be transferred to the UAE and changed from its original March-May timeframe to September-November in 2020.
The season was delayed midway through the 2021 effort to play in the Indian summer due to a breach of the biosecure bubble, and the second half of the season was then continued in the UAE in September. The tournament was held in India in the months of March through May of 2022, with all league matches taking place at locations in Mumbai and Pune and the playoffs and championship game taking place in Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
