IPL 2023: 5 talented players who did not get a single match

The recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season witnessed some amazing cricketing action, with the Chennai Super Kings becoming the champions. While the tournament showcased the talents of several prominent players, a few deserving individuals, unfortunately, did not get a single game throughout the season, despite their potential. Here is the list of 5 talented players who did not get a single match in last IPL season.

  1. Matthew Wade

Matthew Wade, the explosive left-handed batter from Australia, remained unused throughout the tournament for GT. With Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha opening the innings, Wade’s entry into the playing XI became unlikely. Although he had a disappointing season in 2022, his recent performances for the Australian national team showcased his capabilities.

  • Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis, known for his exceptional batting skills, impressed in the previous season for Mumbai Indians (MI). However, the emergence of Cameron Green at the top of the order resulted in Brevis being left out of the playing XI. Despite his potential, he could not showcase his talent in IPL 2023.

  • Lungi Ngidi

Lungi Ngidi, the South African pace sensation, also faced a similar fate. With Anrich Nortje leading the pace attack for Delhi Capitals (DC), Ngidi had to wait throughout the tournament. His experience and success in international cricket could have been valuable assets for DC, but he was unfortunately not given an opportunity.

  • Shivam Mavi

Similarly, Shivam Mavi, the promising young fast bowler, failed to make it to the playing XI for GT. Despite his impressive domestic performances for Uttar Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, the GT management preferred other options, overlooking Mavi’s talent and potential.

  • R Sai Kishore

Lastly, there is the left-arm spinner from Tamil Nadu – R Sai Kishore. Despite his impressive performances in the previous edition of the IPL, Kishore found himself on the sidelines for Gujarat Titans (GT) due to the exceptional displays of Afghanistan spinners Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed.

These five players undoubtedly deserved an opportunity to prove their worth in the IPL 2023 season. But they had to miss out on game time for various reasons, including team strategies, the presence of other performers in their positions, and the preferences of the team management.
