Anil Kumble is happy for Varun Chakravarthy. KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy is back in his element now that his technical difficulties with relation to action and delivery speed have been resolved.
Chakravarthy participated in the T20 World Cup in 2021 and had two successful IPL seasons (2020 and 2021), during which he took up to 25 wickets.
He only took six wickets from 11 games last season, and his economy rate was close to nine runs per over.
Chakravarthy has had a strong performance despite KKR’s poor start to the season, taking 13 wickets from eight matches at an economy rate of 8.06 per over.
Kumble said that Varun bowls in a really distinctive way and that he is really grateful that he was able to find a solution. He added that because of the motion and pace that a bowler like Varun bowls at, if the speed dips, he is less effective.
Further, Kumble said that this year, Varun had regained the trajectory, pace, and nip off the surface that he was previously bowling, and he has adapted to the fact that the IPL is now played in every city, which undoubtedly helps his bowling style.
Mayank Markande, a great leg-spinner, is pleased to be delivering successful googlies for Sunrisers Hyderabad once more this season.
Kumble also said that Varun is one of the players that have been playing really well recently and that he was a member of the squad, but due to injuries, he struggled in the IPL last year. Kumble added that in IPL 2023, other than the usual ones like Rashid Khan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja, many other spinners had impressed him.
Kumble also commended seasoned performers Piyush Chawla and Amit Mishra, who have excelled for their respective franchises.
