With 16 matches played so far and more than two weeks of the IPL 2023 behind it, the season has already included some exciting matches and some standout performances from Indian cricketers without international experiences like Rinku Singh, Mayank Markande, and Ayush Badoni. Sunil Gavaskar, a former star batsman for India, still believes that the IPL 2023 has fallen short of expectations since he has not seen any intriguing emerging talent cricketer in the opening few games of the 16th season of the competition.
In his Sportstar blog, Sunil Gavaskar claimed that the IPL had fallen short of living up to its slogan this year, “Where talent meets opportunities.” The former captain claimed that this season has seen death in intriguing new talent across all areas of the game, and he does not see that altering any time soon.
“…unless there are some hidden gems yet to be unearthed, the fast bowling department, the opening batting and spin bowling sections are looking devoid of any exciting talent,” he wrote.
“There seems to be a death of talent in the bowling division as well. The T20 format is incredibly difficult on the bowlers, which is reasonable, but the lack of preparation and thought when the batter gets dug into them is troubling. The spinners barely ever alter their delivery speed, and by bowling flatter, they appear to be medium pacers, which is just what the hitters want, he stated.
