Gavaskar became emotional about Dhoni’s autograph on his shirt. Renowned Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has explained why he became emotional while receiving an autograph from Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni on Sunday during their last league game at the Chepauk.
In spite of their six-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders in their final home game of the IPL 2023, Chennai Super Kings and their supporters celebrated a momentous event on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Dhoni and his teammates opted to perform a lap of honour at Chepauk as it was CSK’s final home game of the year. Gavaskar pursued the group of CSK players as they left their home ground and approached Dhoni to get his autograph. In fact, the former captain of India requested that Dhoni sign his shirt, a heartfelt homage from one legendary player to another.
Gavaskar claimed that after learning that the Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni would perform a lap of honour at Chepauk, he made the decision to make a particular memory and sprinted over to get an autograph from MSD.
Even though Dhoni will get the opportunity to play at Chepauk if CSK makes it to the playoffs, Gavaskar said he wanted to make that occasion unique. Gavaskar stated that he is grateful to the individual who he was fortunate enough to find in the camera unit with a marker pen.
The 73-year-old Gavaskar praised the CSK captain for his legacy in Indian cricket while also praising Dhoni for his generosity.
Gavaskar said that it was kind of Dhoni to accept his request for an autograph on the shirt he was wearing when he went to ask for one. Due to Dhoni’s significant contributions to Indian cricket, Gavaskar said, it was an extremely emotional moment for him.
